Personally, I would suggest a safe and reliable car like a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. These are perfect cars for for a beginner to drive because it's easy to handle and maintain. The most important thing is that they have safety features.

I completely agree with you on your two choices, these cars in terms of price are on the okay side, they are affordable, the parts can easily be found as well, then in terms of gas usage, I think they don't consume that much.

I also believe Toyato and Honda manufacture best cars for beginners. They are comparatively cheaper, comparatively easier to maintain and also have a great resell value.

A lot of people will have different opinions here, but Honda and Toyota are good brands to start with, I would also add Renault, I started with a Renault and it went quite well and I don't regret it.

When choosing your first car as a new driver, it is vital to consider factors such as features and safety. Two reliable and fuel-efficient options are the Honda Civic and Toyota Vios. Both vehicles have a decent array of safety features, providing peace of mind for new drivers like you.

Generally, I would always recommend Japanese cars for a new driver. They are kind of more intuitive for a new driver to find his or her way around. And Japanese cars are easier than to maintain in terms of availability of spare parts.
