The Audi A3 is a subcompact executive family car manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi AG since September 1996 and is currently in its fourth generation. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third-generation and fourth-generation A3 uses the Volkswagen Group MQB platform. Top competitors to the A3 have been the Acura ILX, BMW 2 Series, Genesis G70, Infiniti QX30, and Kia Stinger. The A3 and A4 are extremely similar with near-identical looks but the A3 is quite a bit smaller than the A4. In the latest survey, the A3 finished in 18th place out of 24 cars in the family car class. Audi as a brand finished 22nd out of 31 manufacturers in a most recent Reliability Survey.
