YANAN, SHANGHAI – On Tuesday at Auto Shanghai 2023 \u2013 the world’s largest auto show, held in\u00a0China\u2019s massive Shanghai Exhibition Center\u00a0\u2013 Volkswagen revealed the ID.7 sedan<\/a>, their new luxury flagship electric vehicle (EV) with a promised battery range of 435 miles, one of 28 new models \u2013 half of which were electrified \u2013\u00a0that the German automotive manufacturer displayed at the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are turbo-charging our electric campaign,\u201d <\/em>said the CEO of VW\u2019s passenger car brand, Thomas Schaefer, who noted that VW plans to release another 10 electric models in the next three years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dozens of new EVs were revealed at the show this week, including models by General Motors, BMW and Nissan, as well as Chinese companies BYD Auto and NIO. Many of these auto manufacturers showed off the exciting new features of their new EV offerings, including the faster charging times, satellite-linked navigation and entertainment options, and the evolution of self-driving technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other EVs that were revealed at the show included GM’s Buick Electra E5, two new models from Toyota\u2019s bZ line of zero-emissions vehicles, and a new prototype of Honda\u2019s China-focused electric brand, e:N. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Toyota also showed off a prototype self-driving taxicab developed with China\u2019s Pony.ai, and BMW AG displayed an entirely electric lineup including two new models, the i7 M70L and XM Label Red. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Chinese EV manufacturers \u2013 which are becoming a fast-growing segment of the electric market \u2013 NIO Inc., a rival of Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc., unveiled the new ES6 EV SUV, which features a digital cockpit and an onboard computer with connections for tablet computers and other devices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auto Shanghai 2023 represents the first time China has hosted the event at full capacity since 2019, due to strict guidelines put in place in the country to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
