LAS VEGAS, NV – On Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company will be unveiling a line of tires specifically made for electric vehicles<\/a> (EVs) that will address several issues encountered by the standard tires they currently utilize, such as wear, duration, and pollution of the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to their very heavy battery packs, EVs can weigh almost twice as much as their internal combustion engine-powered competitors, and that additional weight often causes their tires to break down at much greater speeds as a result. Not only do EV tires wear down at a much faster rate, but that wear results in the shedding of tiny toxic particles with every rotation; this issue poses serious risks for the environment, an ironic situation since EVs have been lauded for their lack exhaust emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, Goodyear will be debuting their new line of ElectricDrive 2 tires at CES in a bid to extend the tire mileage of EVs and reduce the pollution that they produce. EV tires typically need to be replaced on average after approximately 30,000 to 40,000 miles; Goodyear\u2019s new tires, however, come with a 60,000-mile warranty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ElectricDrive 2 series is expected to be available at retail in May of this year, and will come in 17 different sizes, making it Goodyear\u2019s largest EV-specific line. Among the vehicle models that the tire manufacturer will be catering to are the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Chevy Bolt, among many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at CES, Goodyear\u2019s Chief Technology Officer, Chris Helsel, did not specify how much the ElectricDrive 2 tires would be, or what quantities they would be produced in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
