In an email announcing the news, the Tesla CEO revealed that the rollout of the automaker\u2019s Supercharger network growth plans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/04\/climate\/elon-tesla-charging-network-impact\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">is going to be curtailed<\/a>\u00a0as a result, which is bad news for a nation still struggling with an insufficient EV charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Musk\u2019s email would go on to confirm that Tesla would continue building Supercharger stations that are already under construction, but failed to state how the firing of his entire charging team would impact plans to expand the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, later Musk would confirm plans to advance Tesla\u2019s national charging infrastructure are indeed being pulled back, noting on X \u2013 formerly Twitter \u2013 that \u201c<em>Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100 percent uptime and expansion of existing locations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations<\/p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1785406795814510785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 30, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reports indicate that Musk\u2019s move has already had a direct impact on current charging projects, with Tesla just this week pulling out of leases for four upcoming New York-based Supercharger stations: one in South Bronx, two in Queens, and one in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This comes as a major blow, as these stations were originally intended to address serious overcrowding issues plaguing Supercharger stations in those areas, with many vehicles being forced to endure long wait times to access a charger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of the congestion at the existing Supercharger stations in New York can be attributed to a large increase in Uber drivers using Tesla vehicles in response to new financial incentives offered by New York City to encourage the ride-sharing company to <em>\u201cgo green\u201d<\/em> and electrify their fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, Tesla operates 57,579 Superchargers at 6,249 locations around the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN, TX &#8211; Elon Musk, never a stranger to controversy, shocked the automotive industry late last week when he abruptly fired Tesla\u2019s head of electric vehicle (EV) charging, Rebecca Tinucci, along with her entire 500-person team.
