File photo: Takashi Images, ShutterStock.com, licensed.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PLANO, TX &#8211; Following a Japanese government investigation that began in January, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda issued an apology on Monday after it was revealed his company had engaged in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/toyota-certification-cheating-japan-automakers-scandal-26585a96df2a32f7d67a4011a0a98772\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">widespread cheating on safety certification tests<\/a>&nbsp;on seven of their vehicle models, and that production on three of them would be suspended going forward as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the shortcuts and subterfuge utilized by the Japanese automaker included collision tests that made use of outdated or inadequate data; erroneous airbag inflation and rear-seat crash damage testing; and blatant falsification of engine power tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to the scandal Toyota Motor Corporation has suspended production of the three active models that had been found to have used the fraudulent testing \u2013 the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio and Yaris Cross. The other four models in question had previously been discontinued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udcfd\ufe0f  WATCH &#8211; JAPANESE AUTHORITIES INSPECT TOYOTA HQ OVER CERTIFICATION IRREGULARITIES<br><br>Japanese authorities launched an on-site investigation at Toyota Motor&#39;s headquarters on Tuesday (June 4), in a widening scandal that involves irregularities found in the country&#39;s major\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KdAPHBy5F2\">pic.twitter.com\/KdAPHBy5F2<\/a><\/p>&mdash; PiQ (@PiQSuite) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PiQSuite\/status\/1797947293145931994?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 4, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While speaking to reporters, Toyoda bowed deeply in remorse, asked for forgiveness, and assured the public that the safety of the vehicles they already have on the road has not been compromised despite the underhanded testing procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>We sincerely apologize,\u201d Toyoda said. \u201cWe are not a perfect company. But if we see anything wrong, we will take a step back and keep trying to correct it.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s Chairman explained that corners may have been cut in testing in a misguided attempt to get them done as quickly as possible amid an expansion in production of new models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem affects Toyoda vehicles manufactured in Japan only; the company was quick to confirm that the safety violations do not pertain to vehicles that are built overseas, including those made in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Mazda Motor Corp. \u2013 Toyota\u2019s Japanese rival \u2013 ironically on Monday also admitted several issues with their safety certification testing and similarly paused production on two models, the Roadster and Mazda 2.
