The Chevy Corvette is one of the most popular sports cars built and also known as the Vette; a two-door, two-passenger luxury sports car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet since 1953. The first model was named after a type of small, maneuverable warship called a corvette. The Vette has become an American icon of success and synonymous with freedom and adventure and ranks at the top of the competitive luxury sports car class. Competitors are vehicles such as the Porsche, Audi R8, BMW i8, McLaren, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bugatti, and Maserati. The Stingray is more performance oriented then the base model and much faster but although not a muscle car by definition, the Corvette uses muscle car powertrains and has represented American performance for almost fifty years. There are currently significant delays in the delivery of new Corvettes. In December 2022, General Motors temporarily halted production of the Vette due to supply chain issues. GM has warned that there could be further delays in the delivery of Corvettes in the coming months due to ongoing supply chain issues. |
