The Dodge Nitro is a compact sport utility crossover SUV from the Dodge division of Chrysler produced from the 2007 to the 2012 model year. The Nitro shared its platform with the second generation Jeep Liberty. The Nitro made its debut in February 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show. The Nitro is equipped with a 5000 pound towing capacity. A large attribute to its comparison with the Jeep Liberty SUV is its boxer than average style, with a squared bulged appearance and pronounced fenders. For several model years, three trim levels were offered: Heat, Detonator, and Shock trim levels in either 4x2 or 4x4 versions. Top competitors have been the compact SUVs Escape, RAV4, Forester, CRV, Rogue, Equinox, Sportage and CX-5. Two additional Jeep models, the Compass and Patriot, are also be comparable company crossover SUVs. Nitro has received high scores on major reliability ratings. RepairPal gives it 4.0 out of 5.0, ranking it 8th out of 26 midsize SUVs. When Nitro was discontinued after the 2011 model year, the average MSRP was $24,995.
