The Crown Vic was built on the same platform as the Ford Panther and shared suspension and power train parts with the Mercury Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Town Car. Over the years the Ford Crown Victoria has often been recognized as a police vehicle with its Police Interceptor, which has a special street appearance package and is previously known as Crown Victoria P71, Variant and as a Taxicab.
