The Ford Taurus, manufactured by Ford Motor Company, was introduced in 1986. Taurus remained in near-continuous production for more than thirty years. While produced as a mid size car, it changed to full-size in later years. It also had a more-upscale Mercury-branded version entitled the Sable. Since its launch, Ford had built nearly 8 million Taurus models making it the 5th best selling car in Fords history. The newer Taurus competes in the full-size-sedan segment against rivals such as the Avalon, Impala, Charger, Cadenza and Azera, as well as the LaCrosse.
