Compass is one of the first Jeep crossover SUVs. Compass was a car based design built for the majority of small SUV buyers who wanted a fuel efficient runabout that was easy to drive. Car and Driver called the Compass a practical purchase with US News reporting it to be a smooth riding, affordable option within the compact SUV class.
