2012 TOYOTA Prius Plug-in

The Toyota Prius Plug-in -also known as the Prius Prime - is a plug-in hybrid vehicle based on the Toyota Prius, but with an extended electric-only driving range. Like the regular Prius, the Prius Plug-in combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor to provide power. However, the Prius Plug-in also has a larger battery pack that can be recharged by plugging the car into an electrical outlet. This allows the Prius Plug-in to operate in electric-only mode for a longer distance than the regular Prius, up to 25 miles on a full charge. Once the battery is depleted, the Prius Plug-in switches to hybrid mode, where it operates like a regular Prius with both the gasoline engine and electric motor working together to provide power. The Prius Plug-in is designed to maximize efficiency, and offers an EPA-estimated 54 miles per gallon in combined city/highway driving mode and an EPA-estimated 133 MPGe in electric-only mode.
