AUBURN HILLS, MI – Signifying the gas-guzzling muscle car’s last hurrah, Dodge announced recently that it is bringing back it’s infamous Challenger SRT Demon in a special edition model that will be released before the company ceases production on the V8 engine-based brand later in 2023.
According to Dodge, the SRT Demon special edition drag racer will be the fastest, most powerful version of the Dodge Challenger that the company has ever made, even exceeding the capabilities of the automaker’s 2018 Challenger SRT Demon model that some critics claimed was overpowered to the point that it was almost not street legal.
The new vehicle, which is slated to run on E85 ethanol blend fuel, will deliver an impressive 1,025 horsepower and 945 foot-pounds of torque, able to go from zero to 60 MPH from a rolling start in 1.66 seconds. Lower ethanol content fuel will cause the performance of the SRT Demon to slip somewhat, but it would still be able to achieve 900 horsepower and 810 foot-pounds of torque on common E10 fuel.
The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 won’t come cheap, with a starting price of $96,666 – and yes, the last three digits of that number are a deliberate reference to the vehicle’s demonic namesake – but fees, options, and accessories could drive that price up over $120,000.
Preordering for the muscle car begins on March 27, with Dodge announcing that they will be building up to 3,000 of them for the United States market, and an additional 300 for Canada
Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis noted that the company is going all out for the final version of the V8 Challenger before the brand begins its transition over to electric models.
These cars are ending on a high. The Demon 170 is the new pinnacle of factory crazy,” he said. “You have to celebrate this end. We do crazy better than anybody.”
