MENLO PARK, CA – Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and CEO of its parent company, Meta, bestowed upon his wife, Priscilla Chan, a unique gift this week; upon being told by his spouse that the next car she wanted was a minivan, the social media tycoon and billionaire wasn’t satisfied in heading down to his local car lot and picking an existing model out for her.
No, instead he had a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT SUV completely customized into the world’ first minivan bearing the iconic sports vehicle brand’s logo.
Zuckerberg commissioned the famed West Coast Customs in Los Angeles, California to modify the slate gray Porsche SUV, lengthening it into a minivan by extending its frame and adding electric sliding doors.
And in addition to his wife’s pricey gift, the man who just this week surpassed Amazon head Jeff Bezos to become the second-richest man in the world with a net worth of $206.2 billion – just $50 billion or so behind reigning number one, Tesla CEO Elon Musk – also had West Coast Customs modify a manual Porsche GT3 Touring for him as well to match his wife’s vehicle, also in the same slate gray.
Again, this is the first time the iconic brand has taken on minivan form, but it is not the first time an attempt was made; back in 2018, Porsche conceived of a “family-friendly space concept for up to six persons,” later revealing this in physical form as a concept minivan at a trade show, with the vehicle dubbed the Porsche Vision “Renndienst.”
However, the minivan – as is often the case with concept cars – ultimately never went into production; commentators generally agree that Zuckerberg’s take on the Porsche minivan concept is more aesthetically pleasing than Porsche’s attempt.
Despite sinking in what can only be assumed to be bucketloads of cash into customizing the two Porsches, Zuckerberg nonetheless stated in a recent post that his current favorite car that he prefers to drive is his Cadilac CT5-V Blackwing.
