It was designed to be a modern interpretation of the classic Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, with a boxy shape, round headlights, and bold styling. The FJ Cruiser was built on the same platform as the Toyota 4Runner, but with a shorter wheelbase and unique exterior styling. It was available with a 4.0-liter V6 engine that produced 260 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. The FJ Cruiser also came with features designed for off-road performance, such as a locking rear differential, skid plates, and a high ground clearance. The FJ Cruiser had a unique interior with a dashboard inspired by the original FJ40, and featured a number of convenient and practical features such as water-resistant upholstery, an optional backup camera, and a 10-speaker JBL sound system.
